some interviews and reviews
KSQD with Phil Proctor (!!), RU Sirius, LARB, and the Straight Dope
With apologies for writing twice in one week, here are some updates about where I’ve been and where I’ll be, as well as some early reactions to Firesign: The Electromagnetic History of Everything as Told on Nine Comedy Albums.
Saturday November 23 on KSQD
This Saturday I’ll be with on Santa Cruz’s KSQD-FM talking about Firesign and playing and discussing clips from their catalog. And, not to bury the lede, joining us will be the Firesign Theatre’s Phil Proctor! I’m knocked out to have the opportunity to listen these records with Phil and to see what he thinks of the book
11AM-1PM PST, tune into 89.5, 89.7 and 90.7 FM, or livestream at www.KSQD.org.
interview with R.U. Sirius in Mindplex magazine
I had a blast the past couple of weeks talking to the founder of the original cyberpunk magazine Mondo 2000 (and recovering techno-utopian) R.U. Sirius in an interview for Mindplex magazine (whose layout has to be seen to be believed). I’m embarrassed to say I only just learned that he had also been a Yippie.
He read the book carefully and asked great questions. You can check it out here.
and the first reviews are in
Writing for The Straight Dope, David Wineberg says, “Jeremy Braddock has done absolutely astonishing work in putting together this history of the group, how it leveraged the technology of the moment in real time (as it was released), and all the obscure references and connections in it from history, current affairs, and pop culture. An enormous achievement.” Read more here.
And in the Los Angeles Review of Books, Colin Marshall says “a more compelling book of this kind could hardly be imaginable.” Full review here.
Thank you, David and Colin.
book party
Finally, a few photos from the book party we had two Fridays ago at Wax Vinyl Bar in Chicago. It was the perfect place for a party, great to see old friends and colleagues, and an amazing turnout of students too (one of whom was celebrating his own book). We sold out our books, made the bar minimum, and I finally got to meet my editor at the University of California Press, Raina Polivka, in person! That’s pretty good for three days post-election.

If you’ve read and liked Firesign: The Electromagnetic History of Everything as Told on Nine Comedy Albums — and you’re the kind of person that leaves a review — please consider giving me a shout on Amazon or Goodreads. Thanks!
Hi! Does the hardcover version come with a jacket?
